  • Calendar

Posted by on August 28, 2008

We have now added a calendar plugin to the site, which provides two services for our visitors:

    1. An “at a glance” guide to the next five events on the Home Page

    2. A fuller calendar of all forthcoming events (click here)

You can click on the event within the summary and the full calendar to get further details of each event.

The plugin we have used is called Gigs Calendar, and gives us everything we need, however it does create a few quirks for the site. Every event added produces a blog post, which we have excluded from the main blog list and the RSS Feed. Unfortunately, there is no way to stop them from registering within the blog itself, and they are archived according to the date of the event, not the date they were added.

This means that the archive already shows blog entries right through to April 2009! Who needs a TARDIS, huh?

We figured that it was better to just live with this small quirk than to leave out the calendar altogether and we hope you agree. We also hope that you find this function to be useful, and use it for shaping any prayers you would like to offer for our ministry.

And, don’t forget … you can have an event of your own. Just contact us if you are interested.

    Every blessing,

  • Listen to the Posts

Posted by on August 28, 2008

In the interests of accessibility, we have added the option to have your PC read out the site’s blog posts. This fantastic service is provided by Odiogo, and automatically creates an mp3 file using a computer generated voice. You can simply click on the Listen Now button on any post to hear the audio version. You can also subscribe to the audio feed and send the mp3 files to iTunes, or your mp3 player if you prefer.

Clearly speech synthesis has come a long way since I used to mess around with it on my ZX Spectrum 25 years ago.

As the audio is based on the site’s RSS Feed, it is not possible to offer this facility for any section other than the blog, but I hope you will agree that this is a useful addition to the site.

  • Greenbelt … part the first

Posted by on August 26, 2008

Having just returned this afternoon from the Greenbelt festival, I want to try and catch up on at least a little of my lost sleep before putting fingers to keys for a full roundup of my thoughts on another successful foray into the GB worship programme.

That said, one small aspect deserves its own small place in the (Rising) sun before I do that.

As I have outlined in recent communication, we were involved with the festival’s “Spontaneous Worship” programme, whereby a number of groups were charged with setting up and leading a short act of worship in various parts of the festival village over the course of the weekend. For our part, we decided to lead our slot (around 10:45 on Saturday morning) with a Lite version of our Communion on the Rocks event, consisting of 4 songs, a Bible reading and the Eucharistic prayer.

The site allocated to us was the main resource tent (called G-Source), but due to a combination of factors including, but not limited to, the reluctance of the venue managers and the great weather, we actually held it outside G-Source, which just happened to be slap bang in the middle of the main thoroughfare for those entering the festival through the main gate rather than from the campsite.

Many people joined us to share communion, and of those that didn’t many did pass by singing along with the songs and joining in to some degree. Offical Greenbelt Photographer Elaine Duigenan took a number of pictures of the event that have now found their way into the official Greenbelt Flickr albums. The individual photos can be found here:

The offical Greenbelt Flickr album can be found by clicking here, and the specific album containing the photos of the RELte can be found by clicking here.

This was a really enjoyable way to begin the first full day of the festival, especially as we avoided the technical pitfalls of the night before (of which more in part the second).

    Every blessing,
    David

  • theREIGN Juke Box

Posted by on August 19, 2008

We have now reintroduced theREIGN’s music player to the website, and this can currently be found at the bottom left of all pages, other than the Home Page. It will eventually find its way to a slot on the Home Page, but this is still a work in progress. The player is flash based, so should work regardless of which web browser you use.

Initially, the Juke Box includes a full track from each of our two albums: Kyrie Eleison from Sing, and I Will Love You from Where Jesus Touches the Earth but this will expand in time, and will hopefully include some exclusive and live tracks along the way.

If you have any problems with the player, please let us know.

  • Welcome To The New Look Site

Posted by on August 18, 2008

    Hi All,

Welcome to our new and improved website. THe vast majority of the stuff that was on the old site has been seamlessly moved here, and the other stuff (mainly the online music player) will follow shortly … once I have worked out how to plug it into WordPress!

The site will now be easier for me to keep up to date, and should be more straightforward to get around since most things are now bolted together. Hopefully you agree that it looks an awful lot better now than it did before.

For the time being, I have left the old blogs in place (click here to view them) but these will be going fairly soon. The picture gallery, on the other hand, will continue as before without any changes.

Let us know if anything doesn’t work properly, or any links or images are broken. Likewise, your suggestions for stuff you would like to see on the site are more than welcome. You can e-mail us or see the Contact page for other ways to get hold of us.

    Every blessing,

  • Greenbelt Rock Eucharist Moved Again

Posted by on August 17, 2008

theREIGN have been advised that their Rock Eucharist event has been moved once again … this time forward from 11:30pm to 10:00pm on the Friday evening of the Festival. Given that the original timeslot was going to be 02:00am on Saturday morning, it appears that it has been moved from way out on the edge to the heart of the Stage 2 timetable.

Please pray for final preparation of REv2 … it’s getting close now!

In related news, the band are taking part in the Festival’s “Spontaneous Worship” campaign, whereby various groups will be leading acts of worship (unannounced) at locations around the Festival Village over the course of the weekend.

One of those will be led by us.

    Every blessing,
    theREIGN
